Distressed Children and Infants International (DCI) is a U.S. based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, established in 2003, with the mission to help underprivileged children lift themselves out of poverty by providing them basic life necessities, education, health care and family support. DCI also inspires American youth to become compassionate world citizens, and promotes their intellectual and leadership capacities through volunteerism.

The Conference on Child Rights & Sight is held by DCI every two years to raise awareness on child rights, including child labor and diseases that affect vision. The event gathers world-class speakers and leaders to address these pressing issues and discuss creative solutions.

The goal of the conference is to raise awareness of child rights and diseases that affect vision. We anticipate that world-class speakers and leaders will come together to address the global problems of child labor, poverty, and blindness. The conference will draw attention to the gravity of the problems faced by underprivileged children, while providing opportunities for human rights experts to discuss solutions for helping distressed children escape the poverty cycle. A special emphasis will be given to childhood blindness prevention. By providing a forum for researchers, campaigners, and policymakers to come together, we can generate new and creative methods for helping these often forgotten children.

People of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in learning and discussing issues of child rights are encouraged to attend. Among the topics to be discussed are: poverty alleviation, blindness prevention, empowering the underprivileged through education, public health, mental and physical well-being of youth, leadership, teamwork, and volunteering.

Abstract Submission Deadline: July 31st, 2017
Reduced Rate Registration Deadline: July 31st, 2017
Media Registration Deadline: September 30th, 2017
Deadline for All Award Applications/Nominations: September 13th, 2017

Prior to July 30, 2017:
$30 for delegates
$10 for students
Payment must be received in full by July 30th to receive reduced admission.

After July 30, 2017:
$50 for delegates
$25 for students

You may make a secure payment online by credit card when you complete the registration form, or mail your payment by check or money order to the following address:

All cancellation requests must be sent in writing to conference[at] no later than 11:59 PM on September 26, 2017. Cancellation requests may also be mailed to:

There is a $10.00 cancellation processing fee. Requests received after September 26, 2017 will not be refunded for any reason.

Media registration includes entry to all conference sessions, the Exhibition Hall and poster areas, the opening session, welcome reception, lunch and the closing network reception. It also includes all conference materials.

Media registration is free of charge, but advanced registration is required with proper media credentials. To register as a media representative, proof of accreditation is required either in the form of a photocopy of official press credentials, or a letter of assignment to the conference on the stationery of the media organization for which you work. Freelance journalists wishing to cover the conference must submit copies of three by-lined articles in addition to an official letter of assignment.

DCI cannot take responsibility for postal delays or delivery failure of supporting documentation. Without these important documents, we are unable to process the media registration application. The conference secretariat will verify all credentials. As the number of media registrations is limited, DCI reserves the right to refuse applications.

The conference venue is conveniently located in the Yale Medical School and is within walking distance of the New Haven Central Business District and several hotels.

From 95 South/North: Take exit 47 (Route 34). Then take exit 2 (College Street) and take a left at the first light onto College Street. You will see the TAC Building on your left at the second traffic light (on Cedar Street).

From 91 North (Hartford): Take exit 1 (Route 34). Then take exit 2 and take a left at the first light onto College Street. You will see the TAC Building on your left at the second traffic light (on the corner of Cedar St. & College St.).

DCI signs with balloons will be posted at the intersection of Cedar and College Street.

Free parking: at Yale School of Medicine parking Lot# 47 (Between Howard and Cedar Street, on Washington) and Lot# 98 (Corner of Washington and Lafayette). Lot# 99 (Corner of Lafayette and Prince Street) has free parking on Saturday. Any parking lot without a Gate is FREE. Parking on the streets is NOT free on Saturday.

Paid Parking:

  • Air Rights Parking Facility: located next to Yale-New Haven Hospital. An hourly fee is charged to park here. Directions to Air Rights Parking: from I-95 North/South or I-91 South get onto Rt. 34 Connector. Once on Rt. 34 Connector, stay in the left lane (do not take exit 2). Air Rights Parking Facility is at the end of the connector, and the entrance is on your left. To Medical School from Air Rights Parking: Walk up York Street towards Yale-New Haven Hospital. Take a left at Cedar Street and the Mary Harkness Auditorium is on your left (the entrance is through the Medical Library). The TAC Building is at the corner of Cedar Street and Congress Avenue on your right.
  • Howard Avenue Garage: 790 Howard Ave., next to the Yale Physicians Building. The garage is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Rates: $2 per hour. Directions: From the West, enter garage entrance from Howard Avenue, just beyond the YPB entrance. From the East and I-91 or I-95, enter garage from Congress Avenue, just beyond the intersection of Howard Avenue and Congress Avenue.

Yes, lunch will be available to purchase at the conference for a reasonable price. Lunch will take place from 12:00 – 1:00pm.

Light refreshments will also be served at the networking reception taking place from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and is included in the registration fee.

The networking reception will take place after the conference ends in the TAC building auditorium lobby from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. This event is for conference attendees only and is intended for networking with others who share common interests and mission. There will be light refreshments served and music for socializing.

Abstract Submission[fruitful_tabs type=”accordion” width=”100%” fit=”false”] [fruitful_tab title=”How do I submit an abstract?”]

All abstracts must be submitted online through our abstract submission form. Abstracts must not exceed 300 words. Please also include a narrative biography of no more than 250 words and a professional photograph with your abstract submission.

The deadline for abstract submission is July 31st, 2017. Abstracts submitted by July 31st, 2017 will be reviewed for possible oral or poster presentation. Authors of abstracts selected for oral or poster presentation will be notified with further details and instructions.

Submit your abstract of no more than 300 words and request for poster presentation by July 31st, 2017.

We will consider your request and inform you. We have limited space for poster presentations.

Posters will be on display at the conference on Saturday, September 10 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the TAC Building lobby. The poster presenters or representative must stand with their poster during the special Poster Session from 12:00 – 1:30pm.

We are always in need of volunteers and this conference is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and show your support for DCI’s mission. Offering your expertise or simply a willingness to assist will help us greatly in organizing this large event.

We currently need help with the following:

  • General conference/event organizing and planning
  • Publicity/PR/fundraising
  • Graphic design
  • Administrative assistance/data entry/research
  • Photography/ videography/video editing

Tweed Airport (HVN) is a small airport located in the New Haven area, and is the closest and most convenient airport.

Bradley International Airport (BDL) is the next closest airport, and has many more options in terms of carriers and destinations.

JFK International Airport (JFK) in Jamaica (Queens), NY has the most options for international travel. Several options are available to get to New Haven, including MetroNorth and Amtrak trains as well as limo services.

We are not able to help you process your U.S. visa. If you register for the conference we will provide you confirmation of your registration, which you may use for your U.S. visa application. However, we cannot guarantee your U.S. visa and DCI is not responsible for your U.S. visa, travel, or accommodations.

DCI is a small non-profit organization and we do everything we can to keep our costs low and best benefit the children we serve. DCI can, however, provide accommodation (home-stay) and local transportation for conference guests in need during their stay. We will do our best to make our guests’ stay as comfortable as possible.
