DCI follows rigorous standards of accountability and transparency to maximize our benefit to underprivileged communities and provide our donors full confidence in the positive impact of their charitable giving. IRS Compliance
DCI is a nonprofit charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the US Internal Revenue Code. The tax id for DCI is 810671495.
Tax Deductibility
For donors in the United States, all donations to DCI are fully tax-deductible.
Allocation of Funds
Program Contributions
- A Program Contribution is any contribution made to DCI for a specific program purpose and includes the following:
- Child sponsorship dues
- Sponsoring a surgery or medical treatment
- Any one-time gift associated with a specific program
- General donations made to a specific program fund (Sun Child Fund, Orphan Support Fund, Blindness Prevention Fund, etc.)
- Donations made to a program-specific fundraising campaign
- 100% of all proceeds from program contributions are used to cover the costs of these programs and their services, with no portion being used to cover DCI’s administrative or fundraising costs.
- For online donations, proceeds are the total contribution less any credit card or PayPal processing fees.
Emergency Fund
100% of proceeds from contributions to DCI’s Emergency Fund are used to provide emergency relief and rehabilitation in DCI’s project areas abroad, with no portion being used to cover DCI’s administrative or fundraising costs.
General Fund
Contributions to DCI’s General Fund are used for several purposes that are critical to sustaining our mission. These uses are as follows, in order of priority:
- Covering any program deficits to ensure continuous provision of support to our project areas abroad.
- Providing emergency support to affected project areas in the event of natural or human disasters.
- Funding new child sponsorships in advance to expand DCI’s sponsorship network and provide immediate support to children at high risk of dropping out and entering the workforce while they wait to receive a sponsor.
- Initiating pilot projects
- Covering administrative and fundraising expenses needed to carry out DCI’s mission (~10% of DCI’s total budget).
Zakat/Fitra Fund
- DCI has no religious affiliation, but offers the opportunity for Muslim donors to fulfill their charitable duty by supporting DCI’s programs for underprivileged children and families.
- 100% of proceeds from contributions to DCI’s Zakat/Fitra Fund are used to cover the costs of programs with direct charitable benefit to Muslim children and families, with no portion being used to cover DCI’s administrative or fundraising expenses.
